Five Brazilian companies in the Fortune 500

Fortune Magazine published recently its annual list of the 500 largest companies in the World, ranked by total revenue.

Five Brazilian companies were listed: Petrobras, in 65th position (up from 86th in 2006); Banco Bradesco, 224th, up from 269th; Banco Itaú, 288th, up from 415th; Banco do Brasil, 291st, up from 323rd; and newcomer mining giant Vale do Rio Doce (click graph to enlarge), in the 359th position.

The biggest company in the World, Wal-Mart, collected US$ 352 bn in 2006. Petrobras had a total revenue of US$ 72.3 bn, making it the 12th biggest oil company in the World; Vale do Rio Doce had revenues of US$ 19.6 bn.
