Five Brazilian Universities among the World Top 500

The University of Shangai, China, released its yearly list of the top 500 Universities in the World. The best University in the World is Harvard, followed by Stanford and the University of California in Berkeley, in the USA. There are 17 American Universities in the top 20; the non-USA ones are Cambridge (#4), Oxford (#10) and Tokyo (#20).

The Brazilian Universities in the list are University of São Paulo (top 150), Universidade de Campinas (top 300), Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (top 400) and Universidade Estadual Paulista and Federal University of Minas Gerais (top 500).

All five Universities are maintained with public funds. USP, Unicamp and Unesp are funded by the State of São Paulo, UFRJ and UFMG are funded by the Federal Government.
