World Cup 2014 in Brazil

  • July 31st. Today, in Zurich, Brazil officially presented their bid to be the host of the Football World Cup in 2014. Following a tradition, the Cup in 2014 will be in South America, and Brazil is the only bidder (Colombia, the other potential candidate, withdrew last April).

Ricardo Teixeira, President of CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation), presented to FIFA a set of 900 documents, introducing all eighteen Brazilian cities which want to host at least one match of the Cup.

In September, a FIFA committee will visit the cities to check out whether they have the necessary infra-structure; FIFA usually picks between 8 and 10 cities to host matches, but Brazil is asking for 12 cities to be considered. On October 30th, FIFA will announce if Brazil qualifies.
