Maranhão and São Luís

Attracted by the wealthiness of the Amazon, the French invaded the north of Brazil, where today is Maranhão; their stay was short, from 1613 to 1615, but they funded the city of São Luís (actually, the French gave the name in tribute to King Louis XIII, which indeed became a Saint; the Portuguese expelled the French, but kept the name of the city).
