Rondônia, Brazil

In the first years of the 1900s, a marshall called Cândido Rondon was given the task to lay telegraph cables as far as possible towards the west of Brazil; the name Rondon became so associated with this portion of Brazil that in 1956 the former state of Guaporé had its name changed to Rondônia.
